Summary
You are invited to join AALI for a special night celebrating Austin's arts, culture, and entertainment scene with special musical performances and community networking.
We will be gathering in the DRAYLEN MASON STUDIO located in the beautiful new KMFA 89.5 offices. Draylen was a promising young musician accepted into the prestigious music programs at Oberlin College and the University of Texas before his life was tragically cut short as one of the victims of the www.cnn.com in Austin. We will continue to honor his life & legacy.
The evening will begin with hors d' oeuvres & networking, followed by a live performance with vocals from DANIEL FEARS and CAMRYN MWALWANDA, bass from JIMMY BLAZER and live art from XAVIER ALVARADO.
This enchanted evening is free with RSVP.
ABOUT DRAYLEN
A gifted musician, friend, student, colleague, and community member, Draylen was for six years a member and backbone of Austin Soundwaves, where he played bass in the orchestra, band, chamber music, and mariachi.
Draylen participated in all that music had to offer him, and spent summers with the Sacramento Youth Symphony, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He was a member of the Austin Youth Orchestra, Austin Chamber Music Center’s Young Artist’s Academy, and Golden Hornet’s Young Composers Project. Draylen was part of the YOLA National Festival Orchestra, playing with musicians from El Sistema-inspired programs across the country playing at the Aspen Music Festival and Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, where he was conducted by LA Philharmonic music director, Gustavo Dudamel.
Draylen's future was bright as he headed toward graduation from high school, having been accepted at some of the country’s most prestigious music schools, including UT-Austin, UNT College of Music, and the Oberlin Conservatory.
KMFA is an independent public classical radio station in Austin, TX. Classical music inspires and restores the human spirit. KMFA handcrafts exceptional classical music experiences on-air, online, and in the community.
The mission of the Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts (dba Austin Soundwaves) is to make music learning accessible and equitable for all. We lead music learning partnerships that transform school music programs into inspiring centers of creativity. Beyond the school day, we offer community-based music programs that encourage lifelong learning and empower students to achieve personal and professional success.
